DAY 5

Breakfast

Visit Sighisoara and Biertan.

Sighisoara is the most interesting town in Romania, being lived continuous since the stone ages, today the only fortified town still dwelt in Eastern Europe. In 1280 the town’s name (Castrum Sex) appears in a document given by the Pope. Here in 1433 Vlad Impaller son of Vlad Dracul is born. The house where this new king was born, better known as Dracula still can be seen. The town has a 930 m wall and had 14 defending towers. The most important, the Clock Tower hosts the history museum. From the top the view is spectacular.

The Clock Tower was at first built as a gate tower with only two levels. Until 1556, at the first floor was the town hall. In 1894 the Tower was restored and the two emblems were painted including the inscription that reminds of the most important moments of the monument. In 1898 the Tower became a museum.

The Church on the Hill
is the most valuable architectural monument in Sighisoara City. The construction of this church begins in 1345 and continues, with interruptions, until 1525. The monument is the only known vault in Transylvania which contains tombs from the 16th - 18th centuries.

The covered Stairway
or the Scholar’s Stairway was built in 1662 and had in the beginning 300 steps. It was covered to secure the children’s protection, on their way to the school. After rebuilding works in 1849, there were left only 175 steps.

The Monastery Church
this first Dominican monastery, was built in the 13th century and rebuilt between 1484-1515 in the hall church style. The Church had a lot to suffer. What you can still discover inside are valuable treasures, such as a bronze baptism vase from 1440, a collection of oriental carpets from the 13th century, the baroque shrine from 1680 and the organ that is still being used for many concerts.
Of course, we can not leave the citadel of Sighisoara without a stop at the Dracula's House. Actually, the house represents the place where the Romanian medieval king, Vlad the Impaller (transformed later in the character of Dracula, by the famous Irish writer Bram Stoker) has born and lived first years of his childhood. Myth and history - moments for interesting stories and lovely pictures.

Lunch

Biertan is one of the first German settlements in Transylvania, placed between the two "Seats" Medias and Seica) in the Andreean Diploma from 1224.
The first official attestation of Biertan has been certified since 1283, in a document about the taxes demanded by the Catholic Capital from Alba Iulia to the Catholic priests from the Transylvanian Saxon communities. As any other Transylvanian Saxon Community, it has an interesting urban organization, in the Franconian style in which the houses are placed around the central square while overlooked by the grandiose fortress-church.

<>The fortified Church of Biertan, placed on a hillock in the middle of the village, is an exemplary characteristic for the fortress-church family, placed in localities in the Tarnava area, in the so - called Country of the Wine from Transylvania.

Medias is the second important town of the Sibiu County by its size, and economic growth. During the Middle Ages, the city, like most other towns in Transylvania, was strongly fortified. The Evangelic Church "St. Margaret" or the "Castle" represented the core around which the citadel gradually developed. The first document relating to the existence of the town goes back to June 3rd, 1267; it was also mentioned later on, in documents of 1283 and 1318. The medieval center of the city has a particular charm, with narrow winding lanes, centuries-old houses and a large square towards which converge the main streets of the town. Among the worth visiting towers and bastions of the city are the Furriers' Bastion (1641), the Blacksmiths' Tower (1641), the Wheelwrights' Tower (17th c.), the Knife-Makers' Bastion (15th c.), the Gate’s Tower (16thc.).

DAY 6

Breakfast

Relax and treatment at Ocna Sibiului

The beginning of salt extraction at Ocna Sibiului is shrouded in uncertainty, but what is certain is the fact that the Scythians and the Greeks were doing trade with the salt extracted by the Thracians and the Dacians. The primitive dacians’ pits were taken over by the Romans and modernized, to the extent that the technology permitted then, thus intensifying the production.

Lunch

Relaxing time at the pool, suntanned in a quiet environment in the middle of legendary Transylvania. A true enjoyment in a wonderful spa, a 19th century jewelery, elegant and modern at the same time.
