Campulung Moldovenesc is situated at the foot hills of Rarau Mountains on the banks of Moldova River. Since before creation of Moldavia as a state (middle 14th century) the town was known as a trade center in a region of free peasants. Many centuries the town was the capital of region with a special regime, (both administrative and financial) but all things ended in the 18th century under Austrian rule. Here can be seen the only wood dedicated museum.
Vatra Dornei is a famous spa and ski resort in Eastern Carpathians. The area surrounding Vatra Dornei is famous for its mineral waters. The legend says that the initial name of the town was Vatra Dorinei after the name of a young Shepard killed by mistake with an arrow fired by Dragos Voda the king of that time.
Dornelor Country This ethnographic region is set in the North West depressions of the Eastern Carpathians, the center of it being Vatra Dornei, old enclave of Moldavian civilization between Moldavia and Transylvania. Houses are made of wood (fir tree), very important being the stable that is telling us about the peoples agricultural activities (cattle breeders). The interior is rich in wool, the costumes having also cotton, flex and hemp, the leather being used for sheepskin coats embroider with silk.
Poiana Teiului is a medium size village in Bistrtita valley at the end of Izvorul Muntelui reservoir. Piatra Teiului is a lime stone rock that rise 23 m, being a natural reservation
Lunch in Borsec
Borsec is well knew spa, situated in a small depression in central part of Eastern Carpathians famous for its mineral waters, used since 1594. In 1805 the first mineral waters bottles factory was made. Many international prizes where won by the mineral water’ qualities during the years at: Vienna, Berlin and Paris.
Gheorghieni is a small town situated in Giurgeu depression in Easter Carpathians. In 17th and 18th century Armenians are settling here starting a growing in commerce and craft.
Miercurea Ciuc is the capital City of Harghita County, a medium size city on the left banks of Olt River. The oldest traces of inhabitation date since the Bronze Age. In 15th century Miercurea Ciuc was a trade town becoming a “free town” in 16th century. Being the residence of a Secuian state it grew in importance but in 1661 is burnt by the Turks.
Homorod spa is a season local spa at the foothills of Harghita Mountains which are one if the highest volcanic mountains in Romania (1800 m), mineral waters being famous for its natural qualities.

Tusnad spa is the smallest town in Romania -1800 inhabitants. It is situated in Olt River’s narrow path at 650 m. elevation. Famous for its mineral waters it is also the starting point for some hiking trails in Harghita Mountains.
Barsa Country Brasov geological depression is the largest in Carpathians and host Tara Barsei ethnographic area. The historic evidence tells us about the long and continuously inhabitation of this region, ever since the Stone Age. Romanians at the beginning, Hungarians, Germans lived together this rich region. Next to the mountains houses are similar to mountain region; wooden on a stone basis, 2 rooms, kitchen, and no porch, some of them with inner yard. In the lower part, where Germans settled the houses are made of stone or brick, being influenced by Brasov, churches are fortified. (Prejmer, Harman, Feldioara) Inside the beads have shelf for cloths, “brasovenean” dowry box, and painted furniture.
Brasov is the 4th city in Romania, the largest in the Carpathians. Situated in Brasov geological depression it is an important economical center, along with the surrounding cities. The first name of the city was Corona (1234), in the Middle Ages being an important trade city, with connections to Western Europe and with the orient. Well fortified it holds to Turk’s invasions over the years.
The most important tourist attractions are: The Black church (the largest Gothic church in South East Europe), Council square, rope street (the narrowest in Romania).
The Black Church (14th - 15th century) - the biggest Gothic religious edifice in the Eastern Europe (89 meters long, 38 meters wide, 21 meters high inside and 40 meters high outside) has the largest organ in Europe. You can listen here to classic and pre-classic concerts (the Christmas concert is already famous). In front of the Church there is the statue of the great German humanist Johannes Honterus
The Town Hall dates back from the 15th century and dominates the Old City. Presently the building hosts the History Museum of Brasov County, divided in four sections: Archeology, Medieval, Modern and Contemporary history.
Lunch in Brasov
Predeal is the town situated at the highest elevation in Romania (1160 m) in Predeal pass, surrounded by mountains. Predeal was born in 1700 when some inns where built. In 1852 the custom point was moved from Breaza (60 km South). Since the Great Union in 1918 the city becomes an important mountain resort, today being one of main ski and mountain resorts in Romania.
Busteni is a small mountain resort at the foothills of Bucegi Mountains. Busteni is the starting point of numerous trails in the mountains. The name: Busteni (Logs) came from the paper factory set here in the late 19th century.
Sinaia Monastery was erected between 1690-1695 by the military commander Mihail Cantacuzino after his return from the Mount Sinai (indeed, this is where the city name originates from). On the right wall, at the church entrance is a picture of Carol the 1st and Queen Elisabeth. You will find images of the Royals all over this mountain city.
